EMDR THERAPY
WHAT IS EMDR THERAPY
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy is a form of psychotherapy designed to aid individuals in overcoming the symptoms and emotional distress stemming from difficult life experiences.

Numerous studies have consistently shown that EMDR therapy can yield therapeutic benefits in a much shorter timeframe compared to traditional psychotherapy approaches. While it's commonly believed that deep emotional wounds require extensive time to heal, EMDR therapy challenges this notion by demonstrating that the mind can recover from psychological trauma much like the body heals from physical injuries. Just as a physical wound heals itself when obstacles are removed, the mind can also naturally move towards mental health once barriers are cleared.
EMDR therapy illustrates this process by highlighting how the brain's natural information processing system strives for mental well-being. However, when this system is hindered or disrupted by the impact of distressing events, emotional wounds can persist and lead to significant suffering. Through EMDR therapy, clinicians guide clients in activating their innate healing processes using specific protocols and techniques learned during training sessions.

How is EMDR therapy different from other therapies?
EMDR therapy does not require talking in detail about the distressing issue or completing homework between sessions. EMDR therapy, rather than focusing on changing the emotions, thoughts, or behaviors resulting from the distressing issue, allows the brain to resume its natural healing process.

EMDR therapy is designed to resolve unprocessed traumatic memories in the brain. For many clients, EMDR therapy can be completed in fewer sessions than other psychotherapies.
